Young Adult Ministry

The Young Adult Ministry is a Catholic Ministry, the mission of which is to encourage young adults to deepen their relationship with Christ while forming a community of life-giving friendships.

Fellowship meetings take place every Monday night from 8-9 PM in the Galveston Newman Center, directly across the street from Sacred Heart, in the basement of The Bishop's Palace.  Please check the website (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/shgalvya/) for further details.

Our mission is to serve you and each other. To accomplish this, we would like the members of the group to be responsible for the content of each meeting. An individual would sign up for an evening in advance. That person would prepare a short talk (discussion / presentation / meditation / sharing / whatever) for the group. This will not be mandatory. Our members can also invite outside speakers.

Here are the answers to some questions you may have:

Who exactly is a young adult?
This ministry is targeted to serve people in their 20s and 30s; but we are open to any person who is at least 18-years-old and is out of high school.

Some young adults are not comfortable making presentations or leading discussions, especially about their faith. Will those participants truly be welcomed?
Absolutely! There are many ways to contribute outside of leading our weekly discussions.

Can non-Catholics attend?

Any open and respectful young adult is encouraged to join.

Some young adults are in school, have full time jobs, and have kids. What if they can't commit to a weekly meeting?
Most people will not be able to make it every week. That is expected.

Mondays just will not work. Are there activities at other times?
Not yet, but you can change that. We are just getting off the ground, and we need your help.
Please contact us with any and all ideas!
